Wilpattu Reforestation project

Otara Gunewardene met with Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake and joined the Sri Lanka Army to support the Wilpattu Reforestation Program. She discussed the progress of the Wilpattu Reforestation program with Major Kumudu Perera and Colonel Ravi Herath, after which she planted a kumbuk tree in support of the project. Otara also donated water tanks to the Sri Lankan Army in aid of the Wilpattu conservation project.

Otara has been working diligently on conserving Wilpattu for many years as thousands of acres of forests have been cut down creating miles of barren dry land. Similar situations have been noted in many areas around the country, depleted our nation’s low forest cover even further each year.

As droughts, heat waves and floods engulf our country, it is time to protect the natural heritage and environment Sri Lanka has been blessed with.

The Wilpattu Reforestation program is a great initiative to make drastic changes to conserve the environment and rejuvenate our forests and land once again.
